If you have a problem with molds and their unwanted odors in your residential or commercial areas, there is no better authority to consult than a janitorial service. After all, cleaning is its expertise. A janitorial service integrates mold cleaning and odor removal in its services which usually cover carpet cleaning, rug cleaning, upholstery care, spot removal, stain removal, pet stain removal, tile grout cleaning and water damage management. Mold thrives whenever there is a combination of oxygen, moisture and food. When all three are present, mold reproduces through spores. Any organic material can become food for molds. Molds are often found in areas where there is a lot of moisture and standing water. Naturally, these areas include windows, bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and the vicinity of air conditioning vents. Window sills, refrigerator seals and tile grouts are favorite breeding places of molds. They can also be often seen in dark closets, beneath carpets, at the back of wallpaper and paneling, and in pipes and ducts. A mold-infested area has a dank odor. Visible molds look wooly, furry or granular and can be brown, black, yellow, green or white. Great care much be taken health-wise in cleaning away molds. You will have to wear a mask, goggles and gloves. This because you will be using a solution comprised of one cup of bleach to a gallon of water. The mask and goggles are necessary to protect you from the fumes of the bleach. The gloves will protect your hands from the chemical. You will have to scrub the mold-infested surface with the bleach solution. You can use a sponge or a stiff brush, depending on the surface material. The solution should be allowed to stay on the surface for a minimum of 10 minutes before it is rinsed off with cold water. To prevent mold infestation, you have to keep the humidity level in your home or office at above 50 percent. There are several ways to do this. You can use a dehumidifier. It is best to get one with a built in hygrometer which measures the level of humidity in the air. If you cannot find a humidifier with a built in hygrometer, you can buy them separately for less than $50 each. An additional benefit you can get from a dehumidifier is improved air quality since it also sucks in dust and microorganisms from the air. This will include air borne mold spores. The dust and microorganisms are deposited in the drip pan, though, so that has to be cleaned often. During the warm months, use the so-called “dry” air conditioner that does not have built in humidifiers. Avoid using the usual air conditioners where microorganisms can be stored in the cooling water and can be spread through the circulating air. Put in exhaust fans in bathrooms. Experts recommend using one intended for an area that is twice as large in order to maximize drying. If you cannot put in exhaust fans, at least keep windows open during and after showers. External walls should be protected with insulating paint that slows down heat absorption. This prevents moisture from accumulating on inside walls. You can apply these tips given by a janitorial service on the removal of molds and bad odors from your home or office. Alternatively, you may opt to hire the services of a professional janitorial service to do it for you. You will get not only mold cleaning and odor removal but also carpet cleaning, rug cleaning, upholstery care, spot removal, stain removal, pet stain removal, tile grout cleaning and water damage management while you relax.
